How the solar and battery estimate works
- Enter an address. SolarSight uses the coordinates for solar data and opens aerial roof imagery in your browser.
- Lay out the panels. Add, move and rotate panel arrays so the estimate reflects the clear roof area you would actually use.
- Add household demand. Enter annual electricity use or estimate it from household size, an electric vehicle, electric heating and a pool.
- Compare a battery. Choose a usable battery capacity and see solar-only beside solar plus battery under the same assumptions.
- Review the economics. Check first-year savings, grid energy covered, simple payback, 20-year value, costs and any modelled national incentive.
Data, assumptions and limits
SolarSight uses European Commission PVGIS production data for the roof coordinates. Local cost ranges, electricity prices and typical consumption profiles are shown in the result and can be adjusted. Modelled incentives are itemised with their official source and last-checked date.
The result is an indicative planning estimate. It cannot inspect shading, roof structure, switchboards, equipment compatibility or the terms of a live electricity tariff. How many solar panels do I need?
The useful number depends on your roof space, electricity use and target system size. SolarSight lets you place true-scale panels on aerial imagery of your address, then calculates the panel count and system capacity from that layout.
What size solar battery do I need?
A battery should be judged against the solar surplus available to charge it and the electricity used when panels are not producing. SolarSight compares 5, 10, 13.5 and 16 kWh of usable capacity against the same estimated hourly production and household demand. An installer should confirm backup power, inverter and equipment requirements.
Is a home battery worth it?
It depends on battery cost, electricity and export tariffs, available solar surplus and when the household uses power. SolarSight shows solar-only and solar-plus-battery costs, first-year savings, simple payback and 20-year value side by side so the extra battery cost is visible.
How accurate is the solar and battery estimate?
It is an indicative planning estimate, not an installation quote. Solar production comes from PVGIS for the roof coordinates, while costs, tariffs and consumption profiles use local assumptions that can be adjusted. Shading, roof condition, equipment, network rules and final scheme eligibility need an installer review.
Does the calculator include solar or battery rebates?
